Power Supply Chain Manager, Program Manager at Aqualectra (utility company of Curaçao)

As Power Supply Chain Manager, ing. Rudolf Garmes MSc. is responsible for the production and distribution of power and asset maintenance for Aqualectra, the sole utility company in Curaçao Dutch Caribbean. Rudolf has been in this position since April 2014.

In 2017 Rudolf took on the additional role of Program Manager and became responsible for reshaping Curacao’s utility company. With goals such as reaching a maximum penetration of renewables in their energy production-mix, aiming to reach the ‘green’ ambition set by the utility company, while introducing modern technology and innovation, Rudolf strives with his team to have Aqualectra ready for the future.

This program is set realize the following objectives in the next three years:

  • Increase total fossil fuel energy production capacity from 128MW to 168MW
  • Increase total solar energy production capacity from 15MW to 30MW
  • Introduce 10MWh of energy storage capacity
  • Replace existing reverse-osmosis based drinking water treatment plant with a new more energy efficient RO while increasing the production capacity from 50,000 to 65,000 cubic meters/day
  • Allow for economic growth by dismantling former combined water/power production plant at potential touristic development site.
  • Introduce ‘smart’ charging stations for electrical vehicles
  • Replace all the existing conventional street lights with energy efficient and environmental friendly Light Emitting Diode Street Lighting (LED) fixtures.

Rudolf holds a Masters degree in Executive Financial Management at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. In addition, he has a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
