Malike Cummings

Energy and Utilities Commissioner, Turks and Caicos Islands Government

Malike Cummings worked as an Engineer in the Guyana bauxite industry until 1999 before becoming involved in academia, teaching electrical engineering technology at the TCICC. As Electricity Commissioner of the Turks and Caicos Islands in 2009, his remit encompassed the regulation of the electricity sector and the management of the Electrical Inspectorate. In 2012, the regulation of the petroleum sector and responsibilities for the water and sewerage sectors were added to his remit.

In the role of Energy and Utilities Commissioner Malike began a systematic approach to modernize the archaic legislative and regulatory frameworks of the energy sector of the Turks and Caicos Islands, beginning with the drafting of an energy policy in 2014 to ensure the Turks and Caicos Islands embrace a sustainable energy agenda. He is currently leading efforts in the modernization of the regulatory framework of the energy sector to ensure a robust and predictable regulatory regime that balances the interest of consumers and investors alike. He is also leading efforts to modernize the oversight capabilities and regulation of the water and sewerage sectors as well as the petroleum sector of the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Malike holds a Master of Engineering Degree (Engineering Management) from the University of Wisconsin, a Bachelor of Engineering degree (Electrical) from the University of Guyana, and Graduate level Certificates in Project Management and Finance from the University of Wisconsin and Cornell University, respectively.
